Drawn from life, this piece comments on how we view animals as food—and how sanitized our Western perspectives on food have become. We often forget where our meat comes from, blindly consuming with little understanding of how it arrived at our table. Working at a meat market in a diverse community for the past four years has opened my eyes to food cultures, consumption, and consumerism.
I set up the goat’s head with an apple on a plate to suggest how we might view each item the same way—purely as something to eat—while forgetting the life of the goat itself.
